What makes Tesla the most valuable car company in the world

History

Tesla - an American electric vehicle and clean energy company - started business in the year 2003 in Palo Alto, California.

The company's name is a tribute to inventor and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla. Eon Musk who is the current CEO of the company was the fourth employee of the company.

Tesla has been pushing the envelope on battery usage since its inception. The 2008 Tesla Roadster was the first highway-legal production car to employ lithium ion batteries. It was also the first to manage a range of over 200 miles.

Electric Vehicles

Nissan’s 2010 Leaf is perhaps the vehicle that proved an EV could be an everyday driver for the masses. However Tesla has been the company that has made the EV desirable for everybody and not only early adopters.

Tesla, just like iPhone 3, caught traditional manufacturers napping in true Californian digital “disruptive” fashion.

Sales

Tesla's global vehicle sales increased by 50% in 2019 - over 2018.

In 2020 its sales have already crossed a million mark. They are already 3 times that in 2019. Its Model 3 has already sold more than 500,000 cars making it the best selling electric car in the world.

No wonder then its shares have skyrocketed.

The Big Difference

The big part of the Tesla difference isn’t so much about what these cars have but it is about how they are built.

The foundation of that difference is that Teslas

the Model S sport sedan,
the Model X crossover and
the Model 3 family sedan

have been designed and engineered from the start to be electric vehicles.

Tesla didn’t have to make all of the compromises other car companies have made - in order to squeeze EV bits into a package never intended to hold them.
Tesla also was founded and is run by a team of people committed to the idea that the passenger car can be
1) exciting to drive and
2)friendly to the environment.
Performance and environmental sensibility aren’t mutually exclusive. And while the cost of a Tesla isn’t low, it’s a price that fans are willing to pay.

The most Valuable

Hence Tesla is now the most valuable car company in the world surpassing Toyota by a significant margin.

It is also more valuable than Ford, GM and Fiat Chrsyler all three put together.

To be contd...
